August Knuppel was a German-born mason and contractor who assisted in the development of Appleton, Wisconsin. Knuppel was born in Germany in 1857. He came to the United States in 1879. After briefly residing in Philadelphia and Milwaukee, he settled in Appleton. In 1900, August Knuppel organized the Appleton Lumber & Fuel Company.
